-The Mere Mortals will make you believe in God if you didn't already-

I am a mortals fan, in fact, I would go so far as to classify my friends and I as the biggest GROUP supporters of the band other than their own families. The musical talent that blends together on those faithful nights they visit the syracuse area are legendary amongst our circle. With ipod playlists and rock band downloads of fleetwood mac songs and elvis costello numbers we prepare for their arrival with get together of epic proportions. Not to be taken lightly, a mortals concert( and I do mean concert which gets some odd looks when referring to a bar band) invokes emtions and takes a mental and physical toughness that can't be taught and learned. You either have it or you dont as a mortals fan, for instance how many people can go the distance from that first hypnotic set right down to Sunday / Cecilia? The answer is a dedicated few who feed off Maureen and the bands incendiary vocals and harmonies to keep them humming right until close. My Idea: a Mere Mortals concert DVD documenting the finest of their Colemans performances, it was almost a reality this past show as Dennis Coleman approved of Helmet Cam but not to be. Probably for the best though as you simply had to be there, the experience and the atmosphere build the bands aura as the night progresses which is a magical brew you simply cant bottle. Since the holidays are upon us I thought I would take this space and make a holiday comparison for everyone. This band is the reason that I forge on through endless weeks of work, I wait and I pay my dues "at the office" waiting for those friday or saturdays like a kid waiting for christmas morning to open presents. When the time comes for the mortals to play its like xmas eve and I cant sleep beforehand. And like that small kid I peek around the corner just to see if the presents have come. As the bouncer takes my ID i want to feel safe, just to get a glimpse and tell myself that its ok and my holiday is a reality not a dream and when I enter Colemans all bets are off and the gifts I get are not wrapped in paper with a bow on top but rather are belted out to the tune of the rolling stones, Aretha Franklin and even Goldbergs Furniture. Thank You Mere Mortals for making it all worthwhile.
